To glugglug,

Do you really believe a single word GWB says? Of course GWB pretty well has to pay lip service to the GOP. GWB also said good things about Huckabee.

But there are large differences in policy between GWB and McCain. Torture policy being one of them. Up until now, GWB has had the help of the GOP leadership to blunt anything McCain did to oppose GWB.

And actions will speak louder than empty pandering sweet nothings. The GOP leadership can either now support McCain or GWB. They cannot do both. We already see who the bulk of the GOP electorate supported, but now that the GOP field is whittled to only two real candidates, , various stop McCain strategies come into play.

The real question is when will the GOP leadership desert GWB? And the fact that no GOP candidate can appeal to the voting public until they prove with ACTIONS, pre 11/08, that they have a new and better direction.

of course the sitting president is going to endorse whoever his party's nominee it (and it will be McCain, as far as I can see... he might get to the convention with Huckabee sitting in his side like a thorn, but I just don't see a path for Huckabee to get more delegates than McCain at this point)

What is so shocking here? The POTUS is the highest elected official, representative of his party. For him NOT to endorse the nominee (and McCain will be, much to my chagrin) would be political suicide.

You GOP sheeple still do not get it. The American people want a new direction away from GWB.

Both McCain and Huckabee are partly that direction. And its very likely that McCain will soon outdistance Huckabee and lock up the nomination. When McCain locks up the GOP nomination, the GOP leadership in the house and Senate can then support the new McCain direction or the old GWB direction. THEY CANNOT DO BOTH.

McCain greatly increases his general election chances if he can take the lead in the GOP Senate and demonstrate he can end gridlock BEFORE the general election this November.

If GWB refuses to yield to McCain, the dems will probably clobber McCain in the general election. All McCain will have is empty promises and nothing more. And the GOP leadership, McCain, and GWB&co. will all go down the toilet at the same time. As it is, only GWB&co. must go down on 1/20/09 with his stinking record of failure.

Its the difference between empty promises and real deeds.
