In an incredibly treasonous show of cowardice and appeasement of terrorists, the Bush administration has issued orders to the CIA to CUT and RUN. The Bush administration has ordered the CIA to STOP LOOKING FOR BIN LADEN!!

Read all about it!
The CIA has closed down a secret unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants, intelligence officials said Monday, the NEW YORK TIMES will report Tuesday, RAW STORY has learned. Excerpts:
#

The terrorist tracking unit, known inside the spy agency as "Alec station," was disbanded late last year and its analysts reassigned to other offices within the CIA's Counterterrorist Center, the officials said.

The decision is a milestone of sorts for the agency, which created the unit before Osama bin Laden became a household name and bolstered its ranks after the Sept. 11 attacks, when President Bush pledged to bring bin Laden to justice "dead or alive."

The realignment reflects a view that al-Qaida is no longer as hierarchical as it once was, intelligence officials said, as well as growing concern about al-Qaida-inspired groups that have begun carrying out attacks independent of bin Laden and his top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

CIA officials said that tracking bin Laden and his deputies remains a high priority, and that the decision to disband the unit is not a sign that the effort has slackened. Instead, the officials said, the realignment reflects a belief that the agency can better deal with high-level threats by focusing on regional trends rather than on specific organizations or individuals.

Get a load of that spin:

"tracking bin Laden and his deputies remains a high priority"

Yeah, that's why this administration diverted the best resources from Afghanistan and placed them in Iraq where there were NO TERRORISTS BEFORE THE INVASION. I wonder which country will be invaded next in order to "spread democracy" so that yet another haven for terrorists can be created.

In the meantime, bin Laden remains a FREE MAN nearly 5 years after the 9/11 attacks.

This administration is filled with traitorous and treasonous war criminals who only have one interest at heart: making more and more money for themselves and their cronies in the military-industrial complex. 60% of the $2.4 trillion US budget is directed toward Defense and Defense-related spending. 60%!. And after spending hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars specifically in Afghanistan and Iraq for nearly 5 years, what have we to show for it?

2,538 dead American soldiers; 18,356 officially wounded (not including the tens of thousands returning with PTSD and other mental disorders); 113 dead British soldiers; 113 dead "Coalition" soldiers; 4,882 dead Iraqi security forces; ~40,000 dead Iraqi civilians.

Bin Laden still alive.

Ayman al-Zawahiri still alive.

"Heckuva job, George!"

It saddens and sickens me that on the eve of the 230th "birthday" of the United States of America that news comes forth that George W. Bush has directed the CIA to CUT and RUN from bin Laden.

Makes one wonder just how thick those blood-for-oil ties are between the Bush family and the Saudis and the bin Laden family.

Happy Birthday, America.

:-(

Those CIA agents/analysts are needed to find WMD intel and targeting data on Iran. Bin Laden is old news, and not really in control of a unified "Al Qaeda." The real danger is from fellow traveler spinoff groups. The Iranian Mullahs may have even been behind September 11th.

It's amazing these imbeciles are now beating the same bullshit war drums are they did for Iraq.

Saddam could have assisted with 9/11.
Now it's the Iranian Mullahs that may have been behind 9/11.

Seriously though, I mean comon... are we this stupid in this nation or simply liars?

I actually was being sarcastic, with a worst case scenario for world affairs understanding.

But there doesn't need to be a direct link with the attacks of 9/11 for Iran to be grouped into the Global War on Terror or should I say The Long War, in the hearts of many Americans.

Iran captured American hostages after its revolution, sponsors Hezbollah in its attacks against Israeli and Lebanese interests and citizens, and was implicated by the US in backing the attack on the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia.

They are a terrorist threat, and freedom is on the march and bringing The Long War to these terrorist threats, so that we don't have to fight them here.

If/When airstrikes on Iran are desired, the strikes will easily be sold to a large proportion of the American people. Who knows what the situation will be, or will be made out to be. So I up my estimate from a large proportion to a majority.

I've read enough of his posts, including the one just above, to know it wasn't sarcasm... no matter what he now claims (and then goes on to try to reinforce the point made by his supposed sarcasm...lol).

If you were as smart as you think you are you might have looked up his previous posts to determine what context his comment was made in. His comment was entirely consistant with his previously stated views.

Osama works hard to elect Republicans so they can destroy the country. The Republicans see him as their guy.

It is sad that this admin keeps flip flopping on whom to go after. First it was UBL, than it was Iraq, now it is Iran and N. Korea.

The only thing that makes me wonder is the fact that FBI still to this day does NOT attribute 9/11 to UBL.

I quote:
Usama Bin Laden is wanted in connection with the August 7, 1998, bombings of the United States Embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya. These attacks killed over 200 people. In addition, Bin Laden is a suspect in other terrorist attacks throughout the world.

Unbelievable. This admin has no shame. It's disgusting.

I woke up this morning feeling that today was slightly de-valued due to this admin's record. Now I hear this.

I wish I could spit in the man's face. :|

....and as far as the OP is concerned. Here we have a department that for 10 years has been unable to manufacture the capbure of bin Laden. I would say this to be a collossal failure of mission and its no wonder the decision to scrap it was made.

Today I celebrate America's 230th birthday because I am an American. I can imagine what party at Conjob's house would be like...scared children and maybe a fistfight or 2....well at least his burgers will be moist from all the hate filled spittle.......

Could someone point out where, and I quote, " The Bush administration has ordered the CIA to STOP LOOKING FOR BIN LADEN!! ".

I hate to interrupt the bleating of the liberalati, Bush hating sheeple here in the DUmmy Lite echo chamber but no such order was given. It is simply another of Conjobs lies.

Or maybe it was those voices in his head, you know the same ones who told him Tom Daschle was sent anthrax because of a Senate vote.

I think because of the standard that the liberalaches have placed on the current admin where being wrong=lying we'll go ahead and call it a lie.

You may now continue with your Pavlovian bleating.

I can't believe that a serious thinker would see this as totally absurd and realize it needs to be challenged and a charitable thinker see it to be so absurd it must be sarcasm intended to challenge itself.

What, no lame one-liners about the liberati'? Awwww... Color me disappointed, I've grown so fond of watching your kind embarrass themselves with their own hands. :(

Honestly I wouldn't expect you to understand, half the time it seems you're too busy wankin off to a hateful pundits latest catch phrase or talking point to ever offer anything of value on this forum.

Good to see you're keeping up with your trend. Here's your :cookie:

Bin Laden is old. The American public is tired of hearing about him. Every time they do, they're reminded that he's still out there. The administration needs something else to effectively market their war, as well as to get themselves re-elected this year and in 2008.

So what of the conservatives who are convinced of said lying and intentional wrong-doing? Seriously, do your handle some justice and investigate things a little more, seems like you've been out of the loop, for....oh say 4 years.

If you think this admin is as clean as driven snow and was just wrong a few times, well then you need to visit my just opened real estate office!

With all the criticism the NYTimes gets from the right, I doubt they'd be stupid enough to release this info if it weren't a sure thing. Likewise I doubt anyone there would be sick enough to fabricate this bulletin on the 4th of July. Still, I'll feel a little better about this story in particular once I see it posted by those who don't have absinthe ads on their page.
