What would a bus monitor be for, is that like for the backup camera?

I kid, I kid.

It really sucks now that kids today pretty much are the boss at school. Back in the day it was the teachers that were boss. Now they can't even do anything because of all the liability and lawsuit bullshit. My sister is a part time teacher and that's one thing she really noticed is things have changed since she was in school, or even when I was in school. In the past 10-20 years it seems to have gotten pretty bad. Then go WAY back and teachers could even hit people, give the strap etc. Perhaps that was a little over the top, but on the other hand, it sure thought the kids who was boss. Now teachers can barely even defend themselves if a kid attacks them. Pretty sad.

My parents always sided with the teacher.

Now it seems that most parents assume their children to be angels and side with them against the teacher.

WTF? What happened?

I saw the video and that woman looks like an average passenger.
I still don't understand what a bus monitor is. I tried the dictionary but it doesn't say anything about it.
Is it a pensioner hired to look at the bus?

No, they're more like spoiled suburban rotten kids.

Greece is a unique suburb of Rochester. The ghetto is spilling over into some of the surrounding towns, including Greece. But you may be right, who knows. I tend to avoid Greece whenever possible, they've had a corrupt police force and is widely known as the shitstain suburb of Rochester.

What part of "monitor" don't you understand? She's there to watch the kids, so that the driver can focus on traffic and getting to their destination.

She should be reporting any transgressions to the school for any needed discipline. Clearly, someone's dropping the ball somewhere, if these little shits think they can get away with that kind of behavior with no significant consequences.

The first thing I'd do in that school is install a police officer on that bus. The kids sit down, shut up, and don't make any noise, or they will be transferred to a police car at the next stop, and charged with disturbing the peace. Let the parents deal with the cops, who can file charges against them, if the need arises.

Bleh, too much extra work for an already over-encumbered legal system...

Just shoot 'em :p

First off what I am going to say here is in no way meant as a defense for the actions of these children on this bus, their behavior was beyond unacceptable /disclaimer

Chances are day to day they don't act like that on the bus so I doubt there is a need for a cop. I work in a school and as anyone else that does can tell you the last week of school the kids are keyed up beyond belief to get out for the summer and some of them tend to do stuff they would never normally do on a typical school day. My understanding is this all took place on the final bus ride home and the little pinheads never think a step ahead to realize there are still ways to deal with their actions despite the fact they will not be returning to school the following Monday. The woman supposedly never reported this and it only became known to the system after the video went viral so the school system should be given a chance to deal with this before they get dumped on too hard.

Can we please not turn this into one of those "the younger generation" discussions. This is about some shitty kids in NY acting like shitty NY kids. I'm sure this is not the first time it has happened but our schools need to be tougher on behavior on the bus and at school. You cannot allow people to think this is acceptable anywhere, especially in public. It might be the norm in their home but their home is not the world.

Schools don't pay for bus monitors unless there has been a demonstrated need. I don't know what's happened in the past, but there must have been something, if it's better to pay for a monitor than to take a risk.

Absolutely, this has nothing to do with generations. Kids were this shitty when I was in middle school as well. I remember some assholes locked up the teacher to Home Ec class in the closet and they only let her out after she broke down in tears. Little to say, the kids who did that are now just white trash feeding off of wellfare. The only difference is that we are easily exposed to this shit because of the proliferation of media sharing.

This is a generalization, but consider: bus monitor = chaperone.

That video is hard to watch. If i was the driver i would have pulled over and kicked all the kids off the bus. Even the ones who werent doing anything as they should have said something to the other kids to try and stop it. Make those fuckers walk home.

Take them back to school, hold them there until the parents pick them up.

No TV and no video games would be punishment enough - in the short term.

this is an interesting thread. we have postings all the time about fat people and members reguarly post on how disgusting, undisciplined fattys are and give advice like eat less move more... i remember one person posting how in jr high they teased a guy so much that he stopped eating cake and started swimming, it was like a moral victory for the poster to shame a guy into changing his behavior...

yet, these little brats are doing the exact same thing in the video by saying things like "your fat", "ill give you a donut", that some members post in ATOT. the funny thing is in this thread where one can see how cruel it is to say such things, i have not seen anybody post. "the fatty deserved it".

Did you actually watch the video? This went well beyond fat jokes. There were threats of physical violence, sexual assault, teasing her that her family killed themselves because of her, and even physical interaction.

Totally agree, especially when one kid asked for her address so he could perform sexual acts and then steal from her.... TOTALLY RELATED. Thank you for pointing out this obvious hypocrisy.

There is no excuse for what these kids did. They should be expelled at least. It would be even better if they were put into a work detail for the summer. What is important is that they learn that there are consequences for antisocial behavior.

I just watched the video, holy crap that's terrible, it's terrible she had to go through that and not be able to do anything about it. If she tried to defend herself, then she would probably get sued. What a stupid world we live in today.

What sucks even more is they probably can't be expelled as it's technically not happening during school hours. So the school's hands are tied. Unless the bus ride home still counts as being school hours.

Imagine, these are the people that will be running this world one day.

The bus garage/buses are run by the school district, so they can do what they want in terms of punishment.
