What he should have done:

Park the bus, put the 4-way flashers on, call dispatch and request immediate police assistance for an emergency (or, if he felt that would make her more hostile, push the silent alarm that is available to all bus drivers in major metro areas and leads to an immediate emergency police response). If she continued to physically assault him (which it didn't appear she was inclined to do), use necessary force to defend himself. Not verbally antagonize the passenger, not leave the seat, and most definitely not beat the shit out of her.

My answer would be the same if this person were a male, but it's worth noting that the passenger would have been a greater threat if she were male. This chick was completely obnoxious and bitchy, but unlike a lot of young men, I see no reason to think she could or would have beat the driver up or worse.

I represent both bus drivers and our local transit authority and have dealt with a number of situations in which drivers used force against people who had assaulted them, but, as in this case, pursued the assaulter rather than merely acting in self defense. The normal penalty is to fire the driver. They are entitled to grieve this including, if the union votes for it, to arbitration. If an arbitrator reinstates them, that is the arbitrator's choice and not the transit authority's. I have handled three cases like this for our transit authority. I won two and lost one.

I know this video is entertaining, and I am no fan of that young woman, but driving a bus requires drivers to deal with unpleasant and hostile people, and if they can't do so without instigating fights and beating people up, they are a liability to the transit authority and a danger to themselves and their passengers.

wow, that bus driver was wrong. that was crazy.

OP needs to change title to: this is why bus passengers should carry guns

You are crazy. That dumb woman wanted to act like a man and hit a man driving a bus. She got what she deserved.

Oh, if the bus driver was a female, it would be ok then?

Well, the fact that that skank got back on the bus after the upper cut and getting tossed out on her ass makes me wonder if she was on something! Shit, if I got hit like that and tossed like that I wouldnt get back on that bus unless I was carrying!

I like the uppercut, but quite honestly, how the hell did it not knock her out? The guy REALLY needs to work on his power.

Ghetto tough. Notice she came back for more. But really, some women can take a punch. I wouldnt have thought Snookie could take a haymaker, but she didnt go down either. Anyways, this woman on the bus seems like she probably has been fighting all her life. Wasnt the first time she was punched, and wont be the last.

Plus, I think the bus driver was older. Probably driving a bus for 20 years, so his stuff may have not been up to snuff. Still, she came back for more. One tough bitch.

Sad part is the bus driver will probably get sued now.

I remember being on the bus once and there was this crazy woman telling the driver how to drive. It started as soon as I got picked up at a 4 way intersection. So I get on the bus, sit down, a car was coming but since it's a 4 way that car was going to stop. So the bus proceeds as picking me up counts as a stop. The lady starts flipping out on the bus driver "THERE'S A STOP SIGN!1!1!" The bus driver was pretty calm and just told her to relax, it's a 4 way. During the entire bus ride this woman kept criticizing the bus driver's driving. We get on the highway, and now she's freaking out that the bus driver is going too fast LOL. If I had been the bus driver I would have seriously stopped the bus right there and asked her to get off.

Apparently Toronto bus drivers take quite a lot of abuse, too. They almost need to have bus marshals now lol. It's pretty bad what this world is becoming.

right after she hit him someone started yelling "goin to jail now" I heard he got canned. I believe there has to be a law protecting a bus driver from "distractions" like that. I would think it would put others in danger and he might of known that. I gotta say though sitting all day in a chair has to build up some type of pressure and it must be hell trying to control it

Couldn't of been that powerful of an uppercut, because the girl got right back up and came back at him.

On the slow mo, it looks like it had power but didn't land cleanly. I think he impacted her jaw with his forearm instead of his fist.

Yeah, if he would :EDIT: have (ty) connected with that punch she would have been off the ground and landed in the seat.. that might have even done damage but I'll say lucky for her and him it didn't.

last time i seen an upper cut like that was in a 'Rocky' movie

Fuck that. She got just what she deserved. Your "solution" is why trash like her pull this shit to begin with. No real consequences.
