In a non-rollover situation, the high-backed seats do a fairly decent job at keeping damage minimal. Once that fvcker lands on it's side, though, it's another game entirely. Many new buses are being manufactured with much lower centers of gravity as a safety device. The floors are still at the same height (have to be, the truck drivetrain requires a ton of height for clearance) but weight is added beneath that level. This also typically involves the addition of a lower side-skirt, which also produces the added benefit of keeping Hondas from running up underneath the damn things. These models ain't cheap, compared to the oldschool traditional ones.
