Burps taste like sulfur. Been like this for a month or so. Any ideas?

I've had the sulfur (I guess it tastes like sulfur, I have no other way to describe it. Very nasty regardless) burps before. Usually I have the right before I get really sick at my stomach, I guess as a result of food. That is maybe once a year or so, certainly not often nor recurring.

I've had this set of sulfur burps for going on a month now. I might go a day or two without having any but they are definitely still here, and tonight is a bad bout of them. Any ideas what causes this (and more importantly how to get rid of them, because this is very unpleasant) and could I possibly have some sort of stomach problem that requires a doctor visit?

I'd see a doctor and record what you eat. You've got something going on that needs to be addressed.

Farts are supposed to smell like sulfur, not burbs. How are your bowel movements and what is the smell of your movements and anal gas? This will help with diagnosis.

It would be wise to check with a doctor. IMHO, burps shouldn't taste or smell like sulfur.

Yep, see the doc. Are you able to connect a particular food or type of food to the upset stomach?

what causes sulfur burps

Improper eating patterns: Foods with high protein content may sometimes lead to sulfur burps. Highly proteinous foods may take a longer while to digest and if this food remains in the stomach for a long time, hydrogen sulfide is produced, which leads to sulfur burps.

Infections: Infectious organisms like Helicobacter Pylori and Giardia cause sulfur burps. Helicobacter Pylori is a bacterium that causes ulcers in the stomach and Giardia is a parasite that reproduces in the intestines and causes trouble. The occurrence of sulfur burps may be an indication of an infection by these organisms.

Medication: Any medicine with sulfur content may cause sulfur burps. Medicines are generally taken on a doctors’ prescription, and if sulfur burps occur because of such medicine, it is not a serious problem. Rather, the affliction is fleeting and fades away once the prescribed dosage of medicine is over.

here are several easy remedies to get rid of sulfur burps. Let’s take a look at some of them:

There are certain foods which need to be avoided to cure sulfur burps, the first and foremost being sugar. You should avoid the consumption of ice creams, candies, confectionery items, and other sweet foods.
It is very important to keep a check on the consumption of alcohol as alcohol can cause sulfur burps.
Abstain from carbonated drinks in order to cure sulfur burps.
To clean the bowel, foods with high fiber content are recommended. As such, cabbage, lettuce, and fresh fruits are highly recommended.
Your intake of eggs must be restricted. Eggs are high in protein content and as such, may intensify the problem.
In order to keep the bowel clean, drink a lot of water and other fluids like fresh fruit juices.
Start your day with a glass of warm water with lime and dark honey. This also helps to clean the stomach.
The consumption of dairy products must be checked. Dairy products are high in protein content and as such, their consumption must be restricted to a minimum.
Avoid eating canned and processed foods.
Whole wheat and brown rice are good substitutes for common household staples and will help to minimize sulfur burps.
If sulfur burps are accompanied by nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, do consult a doctor and follow the prescribed treatment.

I haven't noticed any patterns with what I eat and when this occurs, but then again I haven't paid too much attention either. I have the same eating habits and eat basically the same foods that I always have, not sure why it would start causing problems now.

Well what are you eating? I was serious about seeing a doctor and recording what you eat.

You're not supposed to be burping farts, something is wrong here.

i had this happen to me once when i ate 3 Wendy's classic triples in 3 days. It last maybe 3 or 4 days, but i have an extremely fast digestive tract. I attributed it to massive protein intake.

You may have an ulcer or GERD. Better get to the doctor. They'll probably start you on a two week regimen of omeprazole.
