I have a Dell 2005FPW since august and have been pretty pleased with it so far.

Today however while playing a bit of half life 2 I noticed how off the top and right of the screen looked.

After looking a little closer I noticed my buddy list to the right, you could even make out the word "Trillian" at the top, and a bunch of odd lines at the top of the screen from my computer stat bar.

The pixels are burnt!! This cannot be!
I have my comp to set to screen saver mode after 15 mins, and it usually does this.
It's never been on for serious long periods showing the same screen, not more than 1 hour w/out a screen saver.
How can this be?
I've barely used this monitor!
Help!'

ps. is there a warranty on dell products? Even if I got them from ebay? :-D

You don't have pixel burn, it just hasn't refreshed that area. One method to get rid of it is to create a white screensaver and leave it on overnight. Another way is to get a fullscreen program that will constantly refresh that area where you see the problem and it has to be on for awhile.

so white screen, constantly?
won't that burn everything white?

and why overnight?

and how come such a thing can happen? on my old sony i never had this problem and my buddy list would always be in it's place.
why won't it refresh? it really looks burnt because they are refreshing to some extent so i can only see it transparently

i asked a friend and he thinks that displaying a white screensaver will burn the pixels just as well, and make everything brighter in the future resulting in worst contrast.
that's why all the screensavers run a black backround!
are you sure you know what you're talking about?

Yeah: http://www.dslwebserver.com/main/fr_index.html?/main/lcd-screen-burn.html

Here are some guidelines on how to take care of your LCD to prevent image persistence or burn-in

* Use a screen saver
* Change your background image periodically
* Use the power save feature of your monitor or Windows to turn off the monitor after a period of inactivity. This extends the life of the backlight too.

Here are some methods on how to reverse or remove afterimage or image burn-in

* Turn your monitor off for several hours/days/weeks.
* Use a screen saver that uniformly "exercises" each part of your screen
* Display a white image on your screen for several hours/days/weeks

I thought LCD's were capable of non-permanent burn-in.

Im sure in the early stages of having my LCD, I had a very slight bit of burn in but it went away fast and Ive never had any problems 1 year on.

I believe there was a topic here or in GH about it.

yes i found another thread on anandtech after some searching.
I also informed myself a bit more.
I went ahead and posted without thinking because I was pretty sure this normally can't happen with LCDs.
And the fact that I've owned a Sony SDM LCD for over a year and it has had much more hardcore burn-in potential than this Dell baby made me think otherwise.

Dell sucks, btw.
