Burnt DVD-R lifespan?

How long are burned DVD-R media generally expected to last? Obviously it's impossible to say something like "20 years," but approximately...

I'm wondering how smart it really is to archive all my MiniDV tapes to DVDs so that I can free the tapes up for more recording. I know that adhesive stickers are known to cause breakdown of DVDs, so I won't be using any, but I will obviously be writing on the surface to identify it.

adhesive stickers how? from what i've seen the data layer is between two layers of plastic unlike with cdr where its right below the label. i had these clear dvdr's without label surface... i at first thought they were like those silver coated top cd-r's..that u can flake off the surface, i tried scratching the top. it was plastic. so i guess atleast from that kinda damage, dvd is much safer.

if i were archiving on dvd-r.. i'd probably be paranoid. get a decent brand. wait no more then 10 years and rebackup. that or backup twice on different brands😛 and of coures you'll have to find out which factories actually make those rebranded suckers
