Burnt cds will not work in Windows 2000

This has been pissing me off:|
All of my Maxell brand cds don't work in windows 2000, whenever i try and look at the files on the disc it gives me the error "E:\ is not accesible. Incorrect Function."
The drive spins up normally and the light is on, so i have no clue what is wrong, they all work fine in win98, but that is a pain to restart, just to get a file off.

any help appreciated,
thanks Trek

<< uh, whats that? >>

have a look here.
unfortunately, it is not recommended that you update with aspi32.exe according to adaptec support with win2k.
"Do NOT install ASPI32.EXE with Windows 2000, Windows ME, Easy CD Creator 4.x, or with Windows Media Player 7.0. If you have one of these applications (or OS), you will be using a different aspi layer that will conflict with the one provided in this file".
suggest you try your burning software website in case there's a patch for win2k and/or uninstall the software & reinstall it!
