Burning x-vid movie to CD

Ive got a couple of movies in x-vid format. They are approximately 780mb each. What program is available that will either compress it enough to burn to cd, or will break it up into <700mb parts so that it will fit on a cd?
Ive already tried using Nero 5.10, it starts the encoding process but craps out after 5 minutes or so. I'm a noob at this, so whatever program is recommended it has to be easy to use.

There is aprogram called Avi splitter that will do the trick.

Well I tried avi splitter and it works, only problem is the saved files are like 1+ gig each.
