I'm gonna be upgrading our systems pretty soon but obviously would rather avoid the lengthy WoW patch when it comes to reinstalling.

I heard I can burn stuff to a single dvd. Does anyone have first hand knowledge of the procedure?

IE do I just grab the whole patches directory and then copy it back down "as is" and bingo, i'm patched to where I was when I burned the disc?

And a side note, does anyone know of free cd burning software? My cd/dvd burner was oem :(
Or even sub $30 retail software

I think you can just copy your entire WoW folder and put it on your new hard drive, no patching needed

nice, easy enough. Now I just need to figure out how I can burn dvds.

I bought CloneDVD and AnyDVD from slysoft, but I don't think there's an option for data->disc like in nero for example...

I created a single WoW installation DVD. It's pretty easy, just copy Disc 1 to your hard drive to get the directory structure. Discs 2-4 just have a single file on them I think, so copy them in succession to the main folder. Or you can install from your hard drive, that is gonna be faster. I made a DVD backup because one of my cds was starting to have reading problems. You can't slipstream the patches however, so you'll need to get those separately.

each WoW update you download goes right into your c:/Program Files/World of Warcraft folder
there are 2 files per patch. Save all of those. IDK if you need them all or just the latest or not..

also, find a mirror and download the latest full patch (where im pretty sure you don't have to get prior patches for it to work)

Indeed - there is a full patch that will take your retail version to the current version. And if I'm not mistaken, the current one is only ~500MB or so - small enough for a regular CDR.
