burning video to a cd

i need advice on what format to use when preparing home movies to be burned to cd ive tried mpeg2 but the files are too big to put on a cd i am using ulead video studio for the encoding and saving of the video to the hard drive and am using roxio easy cd creator to burn with a 32x liteon burner
