You can copy it manually of course but the question is whether the installer will automatically be able to pick up all of the separate folders when it runs. If you're going to experiment be sure to use RW disks.

The way I would do it is to create CD Images of all the disks using something like Alcohol120%, and burn the bin/cue files to the DVD, then when you want to play/install, mount the disc images using Alcohol120%

Not a bad idea! I wonder how far you can/could push this... example all car racing games on one DVD? I would also like to do this to my Diablo 2 and Doom 3 CD's also. This could really clean up my computer room:)

good ideas. While I was waiting on some replies lastnight I decided to try something for myself.

What I did:
I used daemontools to mount the CD images.
Extracted all of CD1 in a folder
Then I extracted everything from the other CD's(including playdisc CD) except the 2 autorun files and help folder you can't copy these or the DVD won't load up automatically when you put it in(make sure to copy the ones from CD1 though we need those).
When it asks to overwright everything do so.
After extracting all the CD's to one folder load Nero
Go to make data DVD add all the files(not the folder) from the folder to nero
Important, name the DVD to UT2004_CD1 if you don't the DVD will not load up asking if you want to install UT2004. You can still install by going to my computer and clicking the DVD/setup.exe but who wants to do that.

I didn't touch anything else in Nero just went to burn after naming the DVD. After burning it popped out and I put it back in. Loaded up asked if I want to install UT2004, entered the key and it installed completely without asking for any CD's or with any errors. I love it because swapping 6 CD's sucks.

The game will not load without the original CD or a CD crack. But the latest patch fixes that anyway. I would bet you can do this with Doom III or any other multi disc game aswell just do it the same way. I think when a certain file can't be found(during installation) it then askes for the 2nd,3rd,4th,ect CD's to look for that file. But if all the files can be found it doesnt need to ask for them and goes on.

That's awesome. I'll have to try that with some of my other games when I get home tonight.

Yeah just when you mount the first CD with daemontools look to see what the name of it is in my computer. When you go to burn it later on name the DVD the exact same as the 1st CD. In order for it to load up asking if you want to install the game you need the name exact and the autorun files from the 1st CD and not the rest. Would be cool if it worked with other games but let us know BlueWeasel(or anyone else) if it does work. I don't have any other multi disc games.

Interesting. I never thought of it that way. I always thought it hunted for the exact cd file name, ie UT2004_2 before installation would continue.

Some games prob do it a different way but I don't know. But in UT2004 thats the only thing I can think of since copying all the files from the 6 CD's to one folder was all that was needed for it to do a complete install.

Now if you copied the autorun files by mistake from one of the other CD's you will have trouble with the CD loading because I'd say you might get a error saying you need to insert the first disc. But you could prob still manually go in and double click setup.exe.

I can't try this because I've already got the DVD version of UT2K4, but other games could benefit from this. Actually, how would you break out the DVD into 6 CDs if necessary?

BTW: Doom 3 doesn't require the CD to be in to play. Very nice.
