Burning software on laptop, DVD burner on desktop

I need to burn recovery discs for my Thinkpad X61, but it doesn't have an optical drive.

The default option would be to purchase/borrow a USB DVD burner. I don't know anyone who has one, and I'd rather not buy it for a one-time use.

Is there any way of burning a DVD over with a DVD drive shared on my home network? Rescue and Recovery (the Lenovo software) will need to see it as a local DVD drive.
