Burning smell from my PC...

Hi

My Rig is in my sig.

Since yesterday I have noticed a burning smell from my PC. I wasn't sure so I didn't switch it off, I switched it off after about 24hrs from that time when I was absolutely sure.

I can't see smokes or fumes or any fire. While my TT BT was moving around a part of it was looking black but after it stopped, I feel it is only the rust of the metal that I was seeing.

What could be the cause of this? How do I repair it?

I know that my mobo temps(idle) were 48-49ish maybe because the paste wasn't applied correctly. That might be the reason, but I hardly have much of a clue apart from that. What could be the possible reason, and how do I sort it out?

if you smell smoke, don't turn it on ago. Check your mobo for any burnt spots. Try to check for lingering smells or odors.

Looking at your PSU, you better check for leaking capacitors, Antecs are suspect. Usually that's where it starts first. If you can swap out your PSU, and everything's fine, well you got the problem.

Look next on your mobo, any leaking, burnt spots etc.

Your CPU temps are rather high for idle but within safety limits. Check, clean, reapply, and reseat your CPU. Good luck.

I'd say you should take it apart, do a carefull, up close smell test of everything, and a good visual inspection.

It is rare to have a burning smell for that long without a total failure.
