Burning process + Simulation both fail

I recently reformatted both of my computers and put on fresh installations of Windows XP. I am now unable to burn CD's in both computers. Previously both burners worked without a problem, so I am thinking it is not a problem with faulty drives. I've tried burning a bin/cue file as well as a plain music CD from mp3s, both without any luck. Like I said I'm using XP SP1, and I've tried Nero 6 and 5.5. Here's my log file (note: this pc has both ide and scsi devices, but this has never been a problem before; the other pc has just ide):

Double-check that the IDE controllers are operating at UltraDMA mode rather than PIO mode. Also, if you did not yet do so, update your chipset drivers and update Nero, and see if that helps 🙂 If it's an Intel-based system and you installed Intel Application Accelerator, you may want to try with it uninstalled.

If problems persist, also post your specs to help us get the bigger picture of what your system is.

Both IDE controllers on both computers are in UltraDMD mode. I used the latest version of Nero on both, as well as 5.5, which previously worked fine. One machine is intel and the other is AMD. More detailed specs:

PC 1:
Intel 440BX2
P3 600e
Liteon 32x burner
80 gig WD
60 and 20 gig Maxtors

PC2:
Shuttle AK31
Tbird 1.4
Adaptec 29160 Scsi adapter
Yamaha 8x burner
2x IBM 18 gig 10k hard drives
200 gig WD
80 gig WD

Since I'm having the same problem on both computers, I would guess that it has something to do with something that is the same between the two systems. As you can see from the specs, that isn't much. I did use the same copy of XP for both systems, perhaps there is something in that installation that needs to be changed for it to work?

Unless you have two WinXP licenses, obviously you should not be using WinXP on two different systems. Pick one that you want to keep, and activate it with Microsoft, and see if that helps with the burning (doubtful, but what the heck).

Beyond that, you might want to fall back on Nero's tech support next. I had to do that when my InCD 3.x component of Nero 5.5 wouldn't work, and they gave me InCD 4 via a FTP download with no hassle after reviewing my situation. Good luck 🙂

Checked for firmware updates for your ATAPI drives? Tried burning at lower speed? Tried having it copy files to a HDD first instead of disc-at-once?

I have tried burning at lower speeds, and without luck. I haven't updated the firmware, but both burners worked without problem before I reformatted. I haven't tried copying files to the hard drive first, but that would only be a temporary fix even if it did work...

Was SP1 installed before when the burners worked properly? If not perhaps some issue was created by SP1 that a the latest firmware will resolve, always worth a shot. My opinion on if copying to the HDD works is, any solution is better than none and it's only temporary if you are too impatient to live with it 😉

I didn't think about the SP issue. I will check it out. Thanks
