Burning music CD with different formats?

All of my music is in mp3 format. Recently, I signed up on ITunes and have downloaded some somgs from there.

As you probably know, iTune files are M4P's and are DRM protected MPEG-4 AAC files. From what I understand, you can burn them to a CD and then use a ripper to burn them again to another CD in mp3 format.

However, can you skip this step and just burn to a CD with two different formats, i.e., some with the m4p format and the rest in mp3 format without running into any problems or loss of quality? Sorry if this seems like a really simplistic question, but my only experience has always been with mp3's.
