Burning multiple DVDs at the same time on one computer?

A friend hired me to make about 50 CDs for her, and we ordered some external DVD burners. What I am wondering is if with my machine in my sig, and my old lady's machine which is the same board but running 32bit XP and has only 2GB of memory and a 2.2GHz Celeron with only 512K Cache, would be able to burn 2 DVDs simultaneously. One on the internal DVD drive and one on a USB DVD burner, or perhaps 2 on two separate USB drives, one a compact USB powered, the other a full size internal in an enclosure with it's own power supply. I can try it myself, but I just hate to waste CDs unless there is some reasonable hope of success?

We actually thought about buying a duplicator but it was just too much money and all this is for is a musical performance and she isn't expecting to sell tons of them, so it just didn't seem like a good investment.

Anyway, can it be done, and have any of you done it successfully? I can do them singly, but if I do it is certainly going to be a chore! Not that it isn't already though.

I think it can be done, but you probably need a separate burning program besides the one already on your system.

Download CUBurnerXP or StarBurn and use them as secondary burning program, both are free.

Dont recommend it. If you do attempt it, ensure that buffer under run is selected & cut the write speed to 2X. Most of the time I'll end up generating a coaster when attempting to write just one DvD (using Nero & under run) if I diddle with doing anything else with the machine while it is writing. That is, it must be dedicated to the task. Possibly if you are using all direct SATA,things would work better. If you must do 50, borrow some notebooks from some friends to use in parallel.

Finally, ensure that each DvD, in fact is readable. I usually check it quickly using DvD Shrink. If Shrink can read it then it's good.

My machine is a 3.06 P4 with 533 RAMBUS using two Plextor PX-750A (two sheep) DvD RWs, one internal & one on 1394 FW running in an ADC enclosure.

That's because you have an older machine.
My bedroom PC (E2140) and living room PC (E6750) can both write to an internal (SATA) and external (USB) DVD at the same time at 12x-16x without errors.
It's rare that it needs to be done, but I've tested it in the past just for fun.
Also, if you're going to burn two discs simultaneously at 2x, you might as well burn one disc at a time at 16x and get done faster...
