Burning .img / .iso files results in unreadable CD

i'm trying to make a copy of a CD, from which I have the .img and .cue files. with nero, I go to files/burn image, select the .cue file, and start burning. i have pointed it to my burner, use 8x speed to be safe, and have tried SIX times with the same result - the CD reports as being empty in 'recorder/medium-info' (in nero), and when I pop it into either my DVD drive it chews on it for about 5-6 secs and then spits it out again, never seen that before. my cd burner just won't read it, keeps saying there's no access to that drive.

the burn itself reports are going fine with no errors by the way, and i can see on the CD that the files have been burned physically (dull area).

anyone know what to do? something with the buffer or what? i've tried with a different cd's .iso file, with the same result.

this leads to another question btw: can you just extract the content of an .img or .iso file to your hdd and then burn it like a normal data cd, or are .iso / .img files special? because this would kinda solve the problem 😉

thanks a lot 🙂

this is what I always do. i keep getting errors while trying to burn the iso directly.

I haven't had problems with trying to burn iso files with Nero, so I would make sure that it is an actual iso file. Maybe it's corrupt or something is wrong with the file. I used to use discjuggler to do iso files, but I just use Nero now and it works fine.
When you are unsure of something, you should try using a cdrw so that you don't make a coaster.

WinISO can extract ISO images onto your hard drive. How are your drives configured? Normally, it's suggested that the CD-RW is set as the master and the other optical drive is set as slave. Maybe that might help? Good luck.

I have had the same problem. I couldn't figure out why Nero would cause this so I started using Fireburner to burn .isos and haven't had any problems with it.

how do you use fireburner? it keeps doing a friggin test burn even though i turn it off. when it's through it says the burn is done but the disc is 100% empty

Yes they have utilies to convert. You can treat an ISO as a sort of ZIP file.

>my DVD drive it chews on it for about 5-6 secs and then spits it out again...

This sounds like the CD is missing something which makes it look like it has content. But I can't see why Nero would burn a CD that way.

To pin this down, try having Nero create an ISO from a working CD, then have Nero burn that to a CD. If it works, you know the ISOs you have been trying are bad. If it doesn't work, you know there is something wrong in Nero (maybe a setting). I have definately burned working ISOs from Nero.

tried extracting a cd to an .iso , then burn it - same result

i'm getting tired of this.....can I just extract the .img file (made with clone cd) onto my harddrive and then burn it?

Yeah...just use Dameon tools, if you copy all the files from the image and some don't copy then the image is corrupt a good way to test it.

Funny you went from Disc Juggler to Nero which does not support .iso as well as DJ.

If you have tried it several times and no good I would assume your iso image is corrupt or truncated.

grrrr well i just tried burning a random file and i got the same. guess my cd's just don't work or are too shitty (TDK CDR-80, don't buy them).

i'll buy some better cd's and try again, thanks for all the help.
