Burning error: Could not perform fixation

I've had a few problems with my burner not burning above 8x reliably (it's a Yamaha EIDE 16x burner). The latest in the chain of mishaps comes from Nero's error dialog: Could not perform Fixation, Burnprocess failed at 12x.

You can check out all of my machine stats below, but main ones to consider, I've got 768 megs of RAM, an Abit kt7-raid, two maxtor 30 gig 7200 hdd's and a Thunderbird 1ghz. I should not have burning errors like this...

Not a likely problem, but is the media 12x or higher certified? And are you burning off the hard drive, or doing CD-to-CD? Lastly, have you tried different brands of media? Maybe the drive doesn't "like" whatever brand you're using.....

i get that error when i try burning cds that are ~700 mb...dont wrory about it..the cd should still work fine

Yes the media is 1-16x..and I've tried more than one brand. It happens both when burning from hdd and cd-to-cd but a noticeable higher amount of screwups when burning cd-to-cd.
