Burning DVD's

Ok, I'm backing up my dvd collection for my family and I ran into a problem. I can't copy a dvd that has been copyrighted. Is there a way to get around this or can i use a different program to copy it? Prefer something free?

I am using Nero and I am burning them onto dvd-r's. Thanks.

Ok, download the free dvd decryptor and the free dvd shrink.

Basically you rip the dvd to an iso file then shrink the file with dvd shrink, then burn it with decryptor.

That is what I do anyway - works great!

Do i use nero to rip an ISO file or the decryptor? I'm getting a authenitcation error when I try and copy the disk to my hard drive.

I usually just run it straight from DVD Shrink w/o DVD Decrypter - worked for nearly all of my discs. Select Open Disc, choose the DVD drive, and after some analysis you're read to rip. It can remove region protection as well. It then creates an ISO image on your harddrive, which you can then burn with Nero / Deep Burner / CopyToDVD / etc.

I believe Nero respects copy protections, so it won't let you try to rip a protected disc, resulting in your authentication error (?)

Decryptor should let you rip the file. If you go to the DVD Shrink website, there are links to several very good guides on how to use Decryptor/DVD Shrink.

Anyone know a good link to some kind of compatability list that would tell me what DVD-/+Rs or RWs would work best in my Sony DVP-NC665P? I have a DVD from England that I'd like to use on the Sony player. I used Decryptor and DVD Shrink to create a DVD-R that has no region encoding, and while my computer's DVD drive (a LiteOn DVD burner) happily recognizes the DVD-R and plays it, the Sony will not.
