I am considering buying a DVD burner, but know next to nothing about them. This question may be kind of stupid, but I saw all the different types of media and wanted to ask. With a DVD burner will I be able to copy movie DVDs for use on the average television DVD player? Thanks...

You wont be able to do a direct one to one copy. Stripping of the menus, special features, etc is involved.

None of them.

The writable DVD formats are such that you cannot make copies of pressed DVDs.

Is what I'm describing likely in the near future? Like burning a music CD now, only for a DVD movie...

Nope. It's deliberate. It's not a technological limitation.

You can make one to one copies of DVD's(using Nero or RecordNow)IF the contents of the DVD are less than 4.3GB AND if the disc is not CSS encrypted but most DVD's are over 4.3GB and there encrypted. So unless you plan on learning now to downsample movies or you have access to group release DVD images buying a DVD burner to copy movies is a waste.
