Hi everyone,

I'd like to take some favorite scenes from my DVDs and somehow put them on a compilation disc. I'm not sure of a good way to do this.

I have Ulead's MovieFactory and can use that to combine any MPEGs that I generate, but I don't know how to take a _portion_ of a DVD and turn it into an MPEG; could anyone reccomend a good method for doing this? Thanks!

If you can rip the DVD to MPEG2 files, there are a number of utilities that will let you edit the files as you wish (ULead may even be able to do this). As I don't do a whole lot of DVD ripping, I'm not sure if it's easy/possible to rip something smaller than a 'chapter' of a DVD. doom9.org would probably have a LOT more information.

I looked into this awhile back for a customer of mine. They wanted to be able to create a demo disc for Home Theatre. It is difficult (and that in not considering licensing issues, which would exist for what they wanted done).

The real issue is trying to preserve the audio and not recode the video. Audio may be 5.1 DD or DTS and you have to be able to cut it or recode it without converting it to WAV and losing information (it is compressed). Most basic tools cannot and even some complex tools have difficulty even opening the files. Without the right tools, you will lose surround sound.

I may try it again sometime as I do have DD and DD5.1 in my editor AND it will do GOP/Long GOP natively (without recode). But as Matthias99 says, doom9 is probably your best place for a guide on doing it.
