when you burn a dual layer dvd, does it sit at a certain percentage for a long time before continuing? i don't remember it doing that before but now it seems to hang on a certain spot for a long time. i end up canceling the burn because it looks like it failed. the last one was at 70% for at least 6 minutes before i stopped it.

this isn't cool because these dvds are expensive.

they coaster a lot. This is why I don't burn them :/

If it hangs, most likely it is a coaster. The brand of the dual layer dvd makes a huge difference with the ones Made in Japan failing much less than the ones made in Taiwan.

i think i got the same brand as before, Verbatim. made in Singapore. I went through 2 20 packs last time without an issue. this time they're hanging.

i'd use regular DVDs, but I have over 100 gb of data i want to get off my hard drive but don't want to lose and thats twice as many discs.

It may be easier to get a 120 GB HDD and copy the files to it.

yeah, but i don't have room for one.

heeh, actually, I have done this with those small laptop external harddrives. If you catch a hot deal, 160GB external can be found for <$80 and back up is a breeze (and much quicker) than backing up to optical. Obviously the price of 160GB external notebook harddrive is greater than the cost of 20 DL-DVDs...

I know this doesn't exactly solve your problem... I gave up on DL-DVD just because I've had poor luck with them :/

external? then put it somewhere until you need it? a HDD that isnt used will last longer than a cheap consumer blank DVD.
