I had a post earlier about a NEC 3520-A burning coasters. DVDs and CDs both. I just bought a NEC 3540-A and I'm getting the same results. This leads me to beleive that my burners are not at fault.

The burner is running on my Primary IDE channel as the Master device. Could that be problematic?

Also on my list of things to to try: reinstall Nero 6, change IDE cables, put in different PC. Anything else I should try?

And the harddrive that the data is being burnt from is the Secondary on the primary channel? Yes, that will cause problems. But the source harddrive as master in the primary, then the DVD burner on the secondary channel.. parallel cables and ide in general just arent meant for that type of data load..

And your other suggestion is good.. try a different IDE cable.. try burning at a lower speed..

Yup, but when you combine the layout of the IDE connections on my mobo and my cheap case its nearly impossible to have the HDDs on the primary channel. The cables going upwards to the otpical drives have to twist around the cables going downards to the hard drives. Oh well.

Anyway, putting everything in the normal position made it work.

Why does it matter which IDE channel the drives are on. Does the primary get top priority? I thought modern motherboards made them equal.
