Just wondering if anyone burns cds across the network. Having the cdr in one box, and all the data to be burned in another box.

No problems. However, it's faster if you transfer the data over to a temp directory, then burn it.

Thanks for the info. It's just transferring all that data over can take a while... So i'll just burn it straight from the other box

Worked fine on my Plextor 24x 10x 40x when i did it once. But like Maggotry said it's faster if you transfer the data over to a temp directory, then burn it. Just make sure your burner has burn proof and its enabled or then i do not think you would beable to burn over a network. BTW my network is 100 Mbps too.

It should work fine without burn-proof too... u may just have to use a slower write speed if u have a fast burner...

My friend who has the exact same burner as I do (4x write, no re-write, we bought it long long time ago when there's no such thing as burn-proof) always burn across the network, and he has no problems... However I would not recommend u do anything while it's burning though...

Try burning it at 8x first... if it doesnt work then turn it down to 4x...

My entire house is networked, and we burn CD's from any computer.

The computer with the burner (a plextor SCSI - I forget the model) is only a pentium 133, and our network is still running at 10 mbps.

Either way, I can still burn at 8x from any computer in the house.

Ok. Well i guess burn proof is good when you do a lot of stuff while its burning on the same computer. Like playing a game or anything. I remember when i tried to close out a program while my HP 9110i 8x 4x 32x was burning at 8x and it would cause a buffer error run or when i opened IE.

Just to confirm like the rest of the people. I've burned over the network before using an l6x Liteon (with burnproof), and the network was 10mbps. ;)

I'm curious how one would burn a CD over the network from a linux box to a windows xp box that has the burner in it? BTW the burner is a Philips 12x8x36x if that matters.

It should work fine if you're burning over a CAT5 Ethernet network without burn-proof. If you're doing wireless, you'll definitely need burn-proof.

<< Are you all using nero?

If so, how do you burn over the network, because in the directory list "My Network Places" doesn't show up... (This being in win2k)
>>

It works in nero. Try mapping your networked drives and that should bring them up in nero. Also make sure you have the latest nero
