Burning CD-R using DVD Burner

I have heard from my friend that it is not that good to burn CD-R with DVD Burner which is built specially to burn DVDs. He said it could make the laser lens life shorter. Is this true?

Thanks in advance,
William

It should work fine; the drives are specially designed to burn both DVDs and CDs. In fact, DVD drives have 2 lasers - one for CDs, and one for DVDs.

You may wear down the life of the motor quicker, but by the time that happens many years away you'll have replaced the drive by then.

why bother burning cdr with dvd burner? makes no sense to me, unless you have optorite with hdburn the 1.4gb capacity makes it a little userful
