Burning AVI files?

I'm trying to burn my first dvd. I have 8 episodes that I am trying to put on the disc. They are about 345 megs each. When I add them to Nero though, it is showing them at a little over 2 gigs each. Is it because they are in avi format? I don't really want to go through the hassle of converting them all. I'm only going to be playing them from my xbox using XBMC. I'm know XBMC can play avi files because I just FTP'ed the first episode over to it and it plays fine. I don't have room on my HD to transfer the whole series over. Any ideas?

What show is it?

Anyways you just burn it as a DVD data disc with Nero if you are only playing it in XBMC.
