Burning a DVD home movie from minidv cam?

I want to burn home movies with my DVD-R drive (Toshiba SD-R5002).
I have a minidv cam, and have captured video onto my computer as AVI files.
So from what I have read the process is:
1. convert AVI to Mpeg2 using TMPGEnc or other program.
2. Burn the dvd using Nero.

Now I dont have the drive installed yet, and Nero shows no option for burning DVD.
Will these options show up once I get the drive installed nad Nero recognizes it?
It is version 5.5.7.2 bundled.

According to Ahead's website, you have to use 5.5.8.1 or higher. And you have to purchase the dvd plug-in. Check www.dvdrhelp.com for freeware solution.
