Burning a DVD from a DivX encoded .avi

You have to encode the AVI file to Mpeg-2 and then burn the Mpeg-2 file into a DVD. Unless you have a DivX dvd player, you can't just go from Divx to DVD.

With the Nero Burning rom Suit you get a program called
Nero Vision with nero suit 7

And Nero Vision 2 with Nero suit 6

Just get yourself a copy of Nero 6 or 7 that comes with Nero Vision

And burn away its Easy as pie .. all Automatic there are some Qty and aspect settings you can change and you can also make a menue system for your new DVD
All up on my Athlon X2 3800+ is takes around 45 minutes to convert and burn a 700MB divx over to a 4.5Ghz DVD.

PS: This is the best and easiest way to do this . Happy new year

Well i put a 2x 700MB divx on 1 DVD movie .. the more files you put on the lower the Nero-vision software makes the quality .. it kinda like adjusts the Quality of the movie the more Dvix files you put on there ...

So you could have 1 or 2 700MB divx files look just like the originals on a 4.5GB DVD OR

You could have like 6 x 700MB divx files on 1 DVD that have reduced Qty to fit ... the software Auto manages this for your convenience. You can also switch to manual if you want .... don?t worry you?ll be able to do anything you want with nero vision.

So you could probably have like 10 hours on a 4.5GB DVD but with bad picture Qty!

And with say 350MB divx TV shows you could have like around 4-6 episodes on there and still have no reduction in Qty!

DVD Santa .. lol .. its not the software you use its the Hardware ...

A Dual core CPU with Nero vision will incode a billion times faster then a

Celeron with DVD SAnta !!

Software helps a little but at the end of the day it comes down to RAW CPU speed.

lol, no celerons here.

What I meant was it's very quick and easy to use, ie. fire it up, drag and drop, press start, walk away... I have no experience with Nero Vision so I don't know if it more or less work than that. I imagine the encoding time is the same.

To tell you the truth, I'm skeptical about the estimations made by the Nero application. I guess I'll just have to wait and find out how long it actually takes.

I'd use DVD Santa, but I don't like the lack of options, and I especially don't like that it brands your DVD with "Trial Version" at the bottom unless you pay them 30$.

Edit: Perhaps the fact that I'm watching a movie while another one is encoding is messing it up?

I've used a number of different programs to do this. Nero does a nice job and the nice thing is once you set it, you can walk away and then come back and your disc is burnt and ready to go.

An alternative is to use a program call Winavi converter. I have not used the new version 7 yet, but have used version 6. The program will convert the file to a folder with a DVD file structure that you then burn with another program. The conversion process with Winavi converter is definitely faster than Nero, so it may be worth a look.

HTH.

Kuttermax .. faster maybe a little but not on Dual Core .. Nero is programed to use both cores .. it flys when incoding with a X2 ^_^ ... i overclocked to 2.5Ghz on my 2800+ and converted a 700MB divx in 28minutes with nero express.

Like i said RAW CPU speed is king software helps like 5-10% nothing worth talking about.

afterdawn.com has some nice guides for this.

There was one program i used for Divx files....it copied them directly to DVD...I want to say it was the Avi2DVD program (should be free).

After mucking around with nero, I like it more and more. The ability to create menus is awesome, and it seems to go a lot faster using a specific DVD creation menu. I've got an alternate computer that I've often used for this sort of thing (rendering, converting, storage, etc,) so I'll just make it my DVD conversion slave 😉

Thanks for your help everyone.

Interesting. It's nice to see Nero implenting Dual Core support. One more reason to upgrade...

WINAVI is the shizzy, I use it to go from DiVx to MPG2 and then use MyDVD6 to encode it all into a nice DVD package. Chapters, etc..

ati's avivo software will encode to mpeg1,2,vcd,svcd,and i think dvd iso real fast. someone cracked it to work on all cards, turns out it all cpu bound. quality isnt as good as say the nero vision, but a movie in 5-10 minutes encoded is pretty nice. i could upload it for you guys wit a ftp server.
