Burners: Plextor vs. LG

My local best buy just got in Plextor CDRW drives for the very first time, the 24x version. They also got the LG 24x CDRW for the first time. A few questions: One, isn't the LG drive actually a Lite-on drive? If so, Lite-on drives are almost as good as the plextor correct? The plextor drive doesn't give much specs...anyone know what the buffer MB size is and if it is Ultra ATA 33 or 66? And is the LG 33 or 66? Thanks.

Plextor has always made excellent drives. You cant go wrong with them. I've had two and absolutely no problems. LG is also good. They have great overburn capabilities. And burn-proof too. LG is a quite a bit less in price than plextor.

I wouldnt recommend Lite-On because it seems some people have been having problems.

I have one and have had no problems. The only thing is the drives with the newer firmware are more media picky. (meaning if you get crappy media, the burner wont burn at 24x like it should or what you'd want it to)

Really though, it doesn't matter. Most of my cd's burn at 20x and 24x and there's hardly any difference.

For the price and quality (they are nice and quiet) I say why the hell not go for it and get one.

Plextor may claim to be king, but I doubt if I had a plextor I could see any "real" difference between the 2.

I just got my Plextor 24x in the mail today and all I can say is that I'm very happy I bought it. So far 5/5 in burning..it's doing 24x on 16x CDRs with no problem.

Very happy. 🙂

Mine will burn cd's I got at office max for 9.99 (100 pack on a spindle), but they don't like my verbatim, because that burns at 20x...

Oh well, I'm glad I didn't have to pay as much for a burner that will be obsolete in a year or 2 😀

I have an LG burner at work (16/10/40), and for the price, I can't think of a better valued CDwriter.. it's very quiet, seemingly excellent quality, and it hasn't burned any duds yet, it's very reliable! Great drive.....
