i have never had this type of problem before, anyone know what that means? only 1 out of every 5 or so discs comes out correctly...any ideas would be appreciated...thanks!

I had that same error on my old Matshita CW-7586 so I called Panasonic and they told me to send it back..... something got f00bed...

I'm not sure what the problem is, but I had to RMA my drive after seeing that...

well thats not good....anyone know a remedy to this besides RMA? its old, probably too old to RMA 🙁 thanks for the input though, you at least got me started in the right direction 🙂

two speed? Oh my my.. Isn't it a time for an upgrade anyway? It is possible that modern media are tuned to work best at 12x + speed and doesn't handle 2x too well.

Power Calibration Error. Most likely SOL. Same as my old HP4020i. Its sitting there idle doing nothing now. Most likely your 2x2x8x is no more under warranty. I gave up on HP and now own a Plextor 4X12X (Ext SCSI). Still very old but extermly reliable. Its a good time for you to upgrade to a Lite-On or a Plextor 🙂

I would try icecool83's method but for a drive as old as your's, it usually means the end. Happened to my Ricoh which was about 5 years old. Tried upgrading the ROM and software, but then I learned from people that the only fix was to get a new drive.:frown:

I don't know if it was coincidence or what, but my old 2x2x24x HP started giving me that error after I installed Nero. It worked fine with the adaptec software, but nero just crapped on me with power calibration errors. I didn't even bother testing the adaptec stuff (this was after a reformat and reinstall of all my stuff, and I didn't feel like crapping my computer up with old software). I just bought a 24x CDRW and my power calibration error disappeared 😀
