Burner really burning CD-R's.

It's definitely overheating. What's your Power Supply? Maybe it's just a defective drive.

Here's the full system:

A7N8X-X
Athlon XP 1700+ TBred A
2x Crucial 256mb PC2100
GeForce 2 GTS 32mb
Onboard Sound
Onboard NIC
v.92 modem
Maxtor 40gb ATA133 7200rpm hd
Lite On 52x24x52 CD-RW
12" Blue Cold Cathode
Chenming Silver Aluminum server tower
Silver rounded IDE cables
Enermax 350W PSU w/dual fans
3x Enermax 80mm Whisper fans

The CPU runs at under 35C most of the time, and the board temp is always under about 30C. Airflow is great. Only the burner seems to be hot...and when it's hot enough to melt the CD-R's, yet the rest of the system is fine, it's gotta be the burner. I've never seen this happen though.

Ya, sounds like a burner problem. Actually, now that I realize you did say "liteon" burner. I've heard about lots of problems with that brand. Probably why they're so cheap. Try getting an RMA on it.

Ok. This has only happened twice. It usually burns just fine. However, the two times that it has happened were both in the past week...and we've had the drive for a few months. I don't see how it could get so hot when the rest of the system is running cool with plenty of airflow, and the power supply should be plenty for the configuration.

Yea, I wondered about that. The ones that got melted were Memorex 48X, 700mb CD-R's. I've been using Memorex 40x CD-R's with great success on my Lite On 40x CD-RW.
