Whenever I convert things like AVIs to MPEG, then try to burn them onto disk, The dvd stops playing the file early, like the end is missing.

But when you put the disc in the computer the fully converted file is there.
Like a 2hour 25 documentary, cuts off at about 47 minutes.
Same place it happens every time you try to burn it too.
Well a different place for different files but you know what I mean .

The conversions are definitely full.
I tried deleting my Nero 7.something, and installed a more reliable
(supposedly) 6.something,
Tried again, but same happened.
Im burning the mpegs onto a data dvd option.

Any ideas?
Im pretty sure its nothing to do with the conversion, more likely the burn.
But then how do you explain the full file being on the disc?

First off. So I can understand correctly, you said you are converting AVI's into MPEG's? What exactly are you burning them as and are you trying to make them a videoCD and not a true DVD? Or do you have a program that turns mpegs into VOB files? Or you are doing avi to mpeg then mpeg into vobs? Because you realize a DVD is not MPEG files right? A dvd is VOB files.

Second off, Nero is terrible for dvds. I dont know who told you to use nero but, id never touch that program for dvds. Some people use it but... I never would. Most experienced users in the dvd world, dont touch nero. Use an image tool with dvd decrypter or record now max for burning. Use good programs for converting and such. If you think its just the burning process, try those programs, that should fix it.

I am not sure what your problem is, but it sounds like whatever you are using to convert into dvd format(sounds like your using crappy nero), it is not doing it correctly. Obviously it isnt working. It sounds like you think it was converted correctly. It could be a problem in the IFO files. If its a true dvd, check the IFO files for the runtime. You need IFOEDIT to do so. See if it shows the correct runtime. It may be whatever program your using to converting as well.

Its hard to help further with your limited information.

sorry to get back so late after your rapid reply.
Ive been tryin a few different things.
It seems though that the main problem was just converting to mpeg 2.
When I try mpeg1 the file converts, burns and plays fine.

Originally, I was using Cucusoft video converter 7.07 to convert avi's to mpeg2.
I would then burn the mpeg file in nero onto a data DVD, to then play on my home dvd player (which does play mpegs).
I have friends who burnt mpegs to data DVDs in the same fashion on their systems, and they play fine.
The strange thing was that the end product mpeg on the data disc was complete, and played fine on the computer; But just stopped playing around a third or a quarter into file, when on the dvd player.

I tried downgrading to Nero 6.6, a more reliable version I was advised, but found the same problem, plus I found it a little limited for my needs.
Also tried a few different converters, but to no avail.

So yeah, it seems to work fine now for mpeg1. So ive just been sticking with that.
I reinstalled nero 7 and am still with Cucusoft.

Have you any idea of the problem?

Also, do you have any reccomendations or suggestions for decent converters/burners?

Thanks a lot

An avi file is a container.

The avi could already have a mpeg format in it.

Might want to find out what the source format is first. Some DVD players can play mpeg4 stuff natively so reconverting would be unnecessary.

Another program that can convert files is Virtual Dub Mod.

Another tool that you can use is AutoMKV. Not sure about converting into mpeg2 though.

I think I'll get back to you later... :)
