Burned up hardrive, Then.....

I just had my first experience with a hard drive failure. It was a Seagate 40 Gbyte that litterally melted with a ton of smoke that stunk to hi Heaven.
My friend said it was making a clicking noise and the power went off. I took it home to test and plugged it in, no problem, went to the bathroom and came back to a smoke pile.
What could cause this? It's a first for me., I'll never leave a system running to go to the bathroom again. It also bew the power supply when it happened. I called seagate and the guy seemed totally shocked that it started on fire. He's going to RMA me another drive.
I don't know if I trust Seagate drives anymore.

To make matters worse I then cracked my first Athlon core after changing the heasink on it the very same night. Whew
I built Hundreds of computers and these are a first for me. I hung it up and went to bed after that.

I just want to find out how a Hard dcrive melted, the whole bottom of the circuit board was fried, it's funny because the seagate drive has a rubber protective sleeve around it.
