Burned out DIMM slots?

Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard

I have always run 2X512 Buffalo Tech Winbond PC3200, in the blue slots.

I just received a 2X256 pair of Geil Platinum PC4000: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820144516

This will go in my old system which I will be reassembling and then watercooling a pelt while overclocking until something melts.

I swapped out the Buffalo Tech for the Geil in my main rig to make sure the Geil wasn't bunk. It ran fine. Today I switched back to the Buffalo Tech, and both blue slots are dead. The black slots work fine though.

Has anyone had ram kill a DIMM slot before, much less both of them? I googled for hours and came up empty.

Thx.

In my mobo, only two of the three slots work properly.

The first slot will cause insane amounts of instability if i have any RAM in it for some reason.

Kensai, was the memory bad, or just incompatible with the motherboard? I'm trying to figure out if I should return it for more of the same, return it for something else, or keep it because it's not the memory's fault.

The final destination for this ram will be an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe, which Geil's site lists as "compatible". The A8V is not on the list, but I figured at worst the ram would just be unstable or not work at all. I never expected it to screw up the dimms.
