The school district I work for provided me with a nice kickin' new Dell laptop and a portable SONY DRX-510UL DVD +/-RW drive ths summer. When I realized that all I needed to complete a portable digital editting/DVD creation studio was a digital camcorder I convinced my wife that we needed one! I picked up a refurbed JVC GR-DVL120U digital camcorder from overstock for $288 shipped (including 2yr parts & labor warranty!)
I shot some video of my son (2 y.o.) playing in the yard this weekend, hooked up the JVC to the laptop via IEEE 1394 firewire, captured the video, and created a DVD on an RW disc with the super SONY. In about 15 minutes I was watching the disc on my JVC DVD player (worked great on my APEX upstairs as well). Too cool!!!!! I am in Dad-filming-son digital video heaven!!!!!!!
