Burned 4 bulbs in a day. I'm guessing heat? Are LED or CFL better?

Slightly unrelated, but be sure you don't go over the maximum wattage for incandescent with that type of fixture.

I've seen one get so hot that it fell out to the ceiling after it melted the threads in the plastic electrical box.

if its on the same circuit as a high wattage device that cycles often it would ie. fridge, ac, heater or even a pc it would cause enough variation to burn a incan bulb. pretty common in older homes or lazily added additions.

led "bulbs" are robust and do run cool but the same cant be said for the driving circuits

I ended up buying 2 of these 60w CREE bulbs and they have been running perfectly with no issue.

I only have two annoyances at the moment:

I should have bought the Soft White version, the blueness of the daytime version really irks me. I feel like I am in my office or something.

Two 60w bulbs are waaaay too bright for my taste. They seem to be outgunning the two 75w incandescent bulbs I have in my living room. It's quite nerve wracking.

I plan to fix the problem by buying 2 more "Soft White" 40w bulbs and mixing and matching. One 60w daylight and one 40w soft white in my bedroom and living room. I am hoping to eventually get my entire apartment on these things.

I am glad I didn't get stupid and get the 100w equivalents...lol

If you are coming from incandescent, even 4000K will be too white/blue for your tastes.
You need to go down around 2700K.
