But it does!

When you burn your finger, GRAB your earlobe!

The pain stops almost immediately!!

My best guess is it acts like a heat sink, pulling away the heat FAST and stopping the pain.

It also seems to keep it from blistering etc..

Brake out your zippo or bic and try it! ;)

my dad spilled boiling water on me by accident (we bumped into eachother in the kitchen while he was cooking) and i have burns on my right arm and right side of the hip. my arms and hips don't reach my earlobe... oh well, i'll just suck it up.

I just burned my thumb with boiling water while cooking corn.

Grabbed my earlobe and pains gone.

Hard part is remembering to do it.

I've been doing it so long now, it's habit.

(Sorry about your burns focusyn !)

I thought everybody knew this. Theres little to no body heat where there is lots of cartilage. Hence by touching your earlobes immediately after you burn your fingers, it dissipates the heat. Doesn't really help thogh preventing a burn... just helps it cool faster.

I conducted a trial test to see if your hypotesis is valid.

Null Hypothesis: Grabbing the earlobe will have no effect on pain perception.

I burned all ten of my fingers in succession. For five of them, I grabbed my earlobe. Unfortunately, my fingers were on fire at the time and the fire spread to my ear and hair. Eventually my entire body was aflame.

I postponed Phase II of the experiment to attempt to extinguish the flame, to no avail. I tried stepping into my oxygen chamber, dousing myself with gasoline, and other tried-and-true methods, but they only seemed to intensify the problem. Seeing a fire extinguisher nearby, I bashed myself over the head with it repeatedly in the hopes that someone would hear my bashing and screaming and put out the fire. My strategy worked, but I seem to have suffared permant brin dmga. :(
