With my recent RMA maxtor 40 gig return to me... since we burn in processors for no reason.. like to burn in this hd with intense read/write on a NT system. What can I run that loops this guy for a day or week before I actually use it ?

I use to use spinrite a while back but haven't bought it since it lag behind... dont like scandisk, think it's worthless.. any of those hd tach runs continous ?

passmark thingy is probably at download.com, then again u will proably have to get fullversion. hmm.....
there must be something that u can use, but generaly, it should work fine, no reason to be skeptical of rma's, u know, maxtor proably tested it themselves

You might try the Linux app Bonnie. Just set it looping using a gig or so of test data and that HD'll be sweating.

Run read/write tests for a few days straight with at least a couple of 30-minute shut downs during that period (drives that otherwise run fine sometimes can't restart). But don't run any seek test for more than 15 minutes continously because the head positioner chip can get hot enough to burn out, and even if it doesn't, its lifespan may be shortened quite a bit.
