I dont make 40 copies of new release games and sell them for $5 on ebay, I do happen to have 2 cats and a dog that like to chew on my cds.

So my question today is:
-Does anyone have/know of a GOOD program that can reliably make a backup of cds/games that are "burn proof."

Ive tried all of the common ones, nero, ez cd creator..etc.

HELP!

Latest SecuRom is supposedly 'burnproof' last I checked, but other than that use CloneCD or Alcohol 120% and you're A-okay.

It's burnproof, until they find a way around it. I use CloneCD to back up all my CD's, and it works like a charm. Just remember, this is a touchy area, and some people don't think we have the right to personal backups (MPAA and RIAA).

It is also highly hardware dependent, the right burner/reader is a key factor in most instances.

Yup Yup, I've used CloneCD for years, but theres still some games I can't backup with my LiteON burner, but if i take it to my friend's, he has an old plextor 12x burner, and it can copy them easily. ::sigh::, ah well, if those progs dont work, its probably your hardware.

yeah, well, the MPAA and RIAA have my backed-up stuff when they pry them from my cold dead fingers (along with my gun).

A high quality burner (as previously mentioned) - Plextor, Lite-On, etc... and Alcohol120% will do as good as you can get. I have run into a few games that must use "virtual" drives rather than the CD itself as the latest copy protection is pretty good.

I am glad I read this thread. I prefer to make backup images of my games and mount them using Daemon Tools instead of using the original CD. I use CloneCD, but didn't think it could make backups of new games using my Lite-on 16x DVD drive.

When starting a backup, the reading would begin VERY slow and remain this way for a few minutes. I assumed it was the copy protection and the copying would not work. I tried again last night and it started copying at the fast speed after a few minutes of reading.

CloneCD + Daemon Tools = Sweet! :)

I ran over a CD once with a chair, I wish I'd backed that one up :/
Now I can't find any copies of that game anywhere, and they've stopped making it.

Surely there wouldn't be anything wrong with backing up, especially a game which is in a series (like football/hockey etc games).

You could try a no CD crack, and then put the CD somewhere very secure, although that's probably illegal as well.

I also do what Blue Weasel does, and mount my CCD images using Daemon Tools as Virtual CD's. They run much faster that way. Lonyo, I wouldn't trust a no CD crack if my life depended on it. You have no idea what may be contained within that exe.

Have you ever considered putting them on a higher shelf or giving them some AOHell discs instead?;)

My brother in law is hell on disks too. he gets a big mess going around the computer, and ends up rolling over one or more of them with his wheelchair.
His grand kids follow the example he sets, and they cracked MS train sim, a huge game, within a week. I am going to burn copies for them to use and abuse, and lock up the masters;):D

Hmm... the last time I checked, the MPAA and the RIAA weren't targetting people for copying games....

just to clarify *my* comments, I said that "MPAA and RIAA have my backed-up stuff"...no, those guys aren't worried about games, but the bottom line is, anybody who says i can't make a backup of *whatever*, is basically infringing upon my certain unalienable rights as a consumer. basically, i'm about sick of these freaking companies/organizations/whatever, who bully their way around all for the sake of protecting their oh-so-precious "bottom line", at the expense of the rights and privileges of us, the people...
