Burn out PS

If a power supply goes up what is the likelyhood that the rest of the system remains unharmed. The PS left qyite a burnt odor. This is not my main system but would not like to replace the whole thing. Just curious

I have never had any other components go bad due to a PS burning up. Then again...it didn't really "burn up" as much as it just actually died.
