Burn, CPU, Burn?

Hi. I have an AMD Athlon 1.2ghz 133FSB retail. Now, for some reason, I run around 57C. I never knew this was high, until I heard about people with 1.5ghz's at 100FSB at 40C. I have a server case (Antec SX1040) with three case fans. The CPU uses the retail heatsink and fan. I use sdram and the vcore voltage is 1.83. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

u need a better heatsink

57 is still within spec but if you want to lower that, you'll need to get a better heatsink/fan. Check out the Cases and Cooling forum. There are also a bunch of reviews floating around.

Also, I didnt have any thermal paste when i installed the cpu. Should i take it apart and add some?

this is my firt post/thread of any kind(i've always been here, just never a member). should i move this to cases and cooling?

What are you using to read the temps? also what mobo do you have?

Different motherboards have different algorithms/methods to read the CPU temp... for example, Asus mobos tend to read temps higher than other mobos, becuz they temp sensor is located closer to the CPU core... my T-bird 700 on Asus A7V runs around 58C without any overclock... While others with the same CPU on a different mobos get much lower temps like 40C... My PC has been running like this for over a yr now without any problems... I overclocked it at one time to 910Mhz and it ran at around 61C... even then it was perfectly stable even under full load too...

I'm using a MSI k7t Turbo-R. and the utility is MSI Pc alert III. oh, by the way, whats the biggest funnel ratio for a cpu? is there a 120mm --> 60mm conversion? anyway, whats the best fan (to go on the funnel)? Loudness isnt really much of an factor... I just moved my case inside my desks computer area, and it muffles the sound. Also, which heatsink is the best for socket a? Thanks.

dude, don't touch it. just leave it, but the time the extra heat finally gets to the cpu you will have long upgraded to a new system.

what is the best 80mm fan out there? remember, loudness does not really matter.
Money isn't too much of a problem: i bought my athlon a LONG time ago; and paid $270. I just wanna get the temp down. BTW, I have a 16" house fan pointed at the case and got the temp down to 52C.
