Burn Baby Burn

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. -- A 3-year-old boy died after his mother held him in a tub of scalding water as punishment on Christmas Day and his grandmother, who had custody, failed to get him medical care for a week, authorities said Monday.

The mother had lost custody of the boy for previous abuse.

Broward County sheriff's deputies found Jaquez Mason with burns over 50 percent of his body after getting a 911 call Sunday morning. He was pronounced dead a half hour later. It was unclear why he was punished, spokesman Jim Leljedal said.

His mother, Valerie Kennedy, 30, was charged with child abuse murder and jailed without bond. His grandmother, Annie Williams, 51, accused of failing to take the boy for medical treatment, was charged with manslaughter and was being held on $10,000 bond.

Deputies said a court had placed Jaquez in the custody of his grandmother because of past abuse by the mother. Despite that, Williams allowed the boy to spend Christmas with Kennedy, officials said.

That evening, Kennedy told Williams that Jaquez got burned, and Williams took her grandson back to her Deerfield Beach home and applied ointment to his burns, officials said.

Both women gave statements to homicide detectives, admitting their involvement, officials said.

A man who answered the phone at the grandmother's house refused to talk about the child or what happened. Court records did not list an attorney for either woman.

🙁🙁🙁

Thread title uncalled for! Use better taste next time!

I'd say more like most, this animal is just one of the worst examples.

Simple punishment, hold her down in a tub of scalding hot water and see how she likes it.

Your thread title sucks and should have mod intervention

That being said, the mother should be put to death in the same manner

I would bet anything they were poor. Yet another reason poor people should have kids.
God, you are a moron.
I don't know what assumptions you made about my post, but it was supposed to say "shouldn't." Not should, that was a typo.

He must have meant shouldn't. Even still... the moron-ness exudes from this one as does stink from limburger cheese.

I live in the County where this took place. The full story was headlines in today's newspaper. You can read it here. I first got wind of this at breakfast, around 6:30AM. Really shook me up to think this behemoth of a woman and her mother could be so cruel and heartless.

I know what it was suppose to say. Your typo has nothing to do with you being an idiot wrapped in a moron. The way you think makes you that way.

If you are the spokesman for people with money, they seriously need to re-elect before you drag them all down into your brain dead hole of forever.

So you're saying there is no correlation between poverty and child abuse? Others would disagree.

Coupled with the devastating problem of family poverty is its association with child maltreatment. Poverty has long been recognized as a core condition in child maltreatment (Garbarino, 1976; Pelton, 1978; Torczyner & Pare, 1979).

Do you think a college educated, upper middle class mother would dunk their kid in scolding water? I think not.

Both mother and grandmother (the mother had to learn this behavior from somewhere) sound like useless wastes of oxygen. (As does JLGatsby.)

That's sad.

Do you even read past the first few sentences?

Despite these findings, most poor parents do not abuse or neglect their children.

I never implied most poor people did anything bad.

In fact, most poor people are decent people. But it's a fact that a large portion of them are not, a portion significantly higher than the rest of the population.

But I would say that atleast 90% (perhaps higher) of all criminals come from poor parents.
