Burn an audio cdr and leave room to add tracks later???

I'm sick of wasting cdrs because i only need a couple of tracks for something and losing the unused portions of the disk.

I have not found a decent general and thorough cd burning FAQ or online guide, but after reading about "disk at once", "Multi-session", "session at once"... I am confused.

I just want to burn, say, half a cdr with audio. Listen to it in my car or portable cd player, then sometime later just add to the unused portions. It doesn't seem possible.

Thanks for any help with this issue and if you know of any good online content that goes into depth but doesn't require a PHD in engineering I would be very appreciative.

Unfortunately doing that doesn't work because for an audio cd player to read a burned cd the cd must be finalized... after its finalized you can add tracks, but an audio cd player won't be able to read the added songs because the cd has previously been finalized (and I assume you can only finalize a cd once)... I've thought about it myself and it seems that only solution is to burn the cd with all the songs you want on it once and only once 🙂

Can you use a rewritable CD. More expensive, but if it can be read in you audio device, you can save your guilt trip.

Buy the CD in bulk for a couple of cents apiece via Hot Deals also.

Do not be so eager to burn a Cd without better advance planning also.

Thanks for the help!

The problem is my wife. She is an actor and asks me to find obscure music for her to learn for auditions and such. Invariably she needs it right away, and then a day later needs something else. So goes the endless stream of 80min TY with 5 or fewer tracks on it... all for the sake of some musical in Yidish hardly anyone will go see...
CDRW isn't really a practicle option as very few CD player will play them.

Thanks again - and I hope my wife doesn't prowl the AT forums😉

I picked up 100 cds for $4.95 the other day.
(32 speed)
that's .05 a cd.

thats nothing.
name one other thing you can buy so cheap?

I do not mean to flame,
so don't worry, be happy!

I still remember when cd's cost more than a buck each.

peace.

I still remember when they cost about 10 bucks each! And more often than not you ended up with an expensive coaster. noob 😉

Unfortunately there's no way to add more data to an already closed audio CD.

And now you can get all your long distance phone calls for just a buck. 10-10-220

1) Check out Hot Deals . . . (often) . . . many times there are posted free after rebate CD-Rs (I have hundreds that way).

2) Buy your wife a player that can read CD-RWs . . . reuse it up to 1,000 times.

break down and get her an mp3 compatible player...even with cheap cd's you'll recover the cost in no time...

the local wife is an art bell freak...5 cd's per show...with mp3 it's only 1 cd per show...at first we got a portable phillips for 100 bucks that plugged into the car lighter...for mom's day went and did a car player for under 200 (or was it 3?)...no fuss no muss, one happy momma and when momma's happy, everyone's happy...

and...with mp3's, since they are data files, you should beable to not have to finalize and add to - but since I haven't acutally tested that theory, guess I'd better...details at 10...

yup a mp3 player ussually can do cdrw🙂 now that totally cuts waste.

i think theres only one or two super slim mp3 cd players around though. personally i hate bloated players.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

You raise a good point scottrico, and i don't view useful crit. as a flame or thread crap, but my concern wasn't the cost. I just hate wastefullness. I'm one of those that saves unwanted printjobs for scrap paper, and always saves phone messages until the whole paper is used. You know trying to save water, electricity, and such. If nothing else it entertains the wife (don't mind the eye rolling🙂

The mp3/cdrw player is probably the best solution - i just haven't looked into it.
