Why have an urn? Tell your family you'd like your ashes disposed of, or strewn over some area of significance to you. Whatever. But you don't have to save the ashes, ya know?
My dad was cremated when he passed away, going on 4 years ago. He and Mom used to winter in Arizona, out east of Phoenix, and he loved the desert out there. So when he died, Mom decided to get rid of the house out there, since she didn't want to be a snowbird anymore. While we were out there prepping the house for selling, we took Dad's ashes out into the desert, in a really nice area, and spread them to the wind. We figured he'd like that.
Just be careful that local ordinances allow that, ya know? It'd be pure suckage to get pwned with a littering ticket for doing such a thing!!
Oh yeah, and most crematoriums will dispose of the ashes for you if you ask them to, or even hold onto them for up to a year or two, for a nominal fee. I told my sisters that I don't care where mine are spread, and if they make good fertilizer, to feel free to use them for that!
