Eligibility: Individuals eligible for this program are: (1) active duty members of the uniformed services; (2) retirees and veterans who were honorably discharged. (3) U.S. civilian marine personnel of the Military Sealift Command; and (4) dependent family members of active duty personnel, retirees, and veterans of the uniformed services.

i don't think my wife or family will go for this, but i have thought about it periodically. the more i think about it, the more i like the idea

would you go for Burial at Sea?

From the brief original post is appears I would be qualified as an Army vet.

Keep in mind that how your remains are disposed of is a product of the emotional values of those you leave behind. I couldn't care less if you grilled my carcass, carved me up and served me for dinner. When I am gone, I am gone, IF there is anything beyond this rock we live on it won't have anything to do with your physical body.

I would go for a burial at sea. Otherwise first I want the useful organs of my body to be donated. Then I want my body cremated, put into a coffee can, and I want my ashes dumped into the Pacific Ocean. I guess either way I'll find my way into everybody's drinking water.

yes, they do both bodies and "cremains" (cremated remains)

um while it may be free there are a few points you should be warned about.

1.we once had a body onboard for a month, kept that one in the breezeway, mopping the fluids every shift-not a pretty site.
2.things don't always go as "planned"-we were required to stay in the area until the casket sunk....
there were times we tried maneuvering close enough to sweep water over the caskets that stayed afloat-a few times running over the casket and seeing the wood splinters floating-not a good feeling.
3.on rare occasions we shot the caskets with 3"50 cal to sink them.

the reason i say this: be kind to the folks having to "follow orders"
get cremated

my stomach still turns at the memories

If I were in the Navy, yes.

As it is, I'd like to have my organs donated, be creamated, and have my ashes dumped in Caddo Lake in Louisiana/Texas.
