heh.. we were robbed once and the culprit purposely turned off my pc and moved the webcam away ... pretty clever.

But I could tell about what time he was there from file logs that stopped recording like they usually do. Not that this was of any help in finding them...

Great idea. I should set something up like this, when I get my own home. I just hope it won't cost too much.

Wonder how long it will take for someone to approach him to try and sell his software.

There is lots of software out there that will do this. most will turn your webcam on when it detects motion. You can have it record, snap pics, send emails, dial your phone etc.

Police said it was a "brilliant idea" of software engineer Duncan Grisby, who set it after a previous burglary.

Park was given an 11-month jail term by magistrates in Cambridge on Tuesday after admitting burglary.
Magistrates heard Park, who has more than 13 previous convictions for theft, had stolen computer equipment and other property with a value of nearly £4,000 from Mr Grisby's study.

He committed the offence in February while on bail after being charged with an attempted burglary in Ely, Cambridgeshire, in August.
13 prior theft offenses and he only got 11 months in jail for this latest one?

Yes unfortunately our law sucks in most cases. Life doesn't mean life and overcrowded prisons mean no space to put people away who deserve it. Hell it was only until recently that a burglar stood a better chance of bringing charges against you if you attacked them when entering your house.
