When James Wood came home Thursday morning, his house had been ransacked...

Police say Nicholas Wig, 26, had checked his Facebook while stealing from the house and forgotten to log out.

So, Wood updated Wig's status.

"I shared his photo and said watch out for this guy he's a thief," Wood said. "People kept commenting on that post."

He also left his phone number asking anyone to call with information on where to find Wig.

Wig texted him.

"I replied you left a few things at my house last night how can I get them back to you," Wood said.

Wig agreed to meet with Wood under the impression he could give back Wood's recycled cell phone in exchange for his clothes he had left at the home.

When Wood spotted him heading toward the house, he called police.

Wig has an extensive criminal history, including a second-degree burglary conviction from 2008, a domestic assault misdemeanor, and pending drug charges.

Apparently, it was raining the night of the burglary and the thief changed out of some of his wet clothes at the crime scene and left those clothes behind...

When I was at the Military Police Academy they told us that most criminals were stupid and lazy. But Hollywood keeps making films like Oceans 11 that portray crooks as smart and handsome...

What is your opinion?

Crooks smart and handsome?

Or stupid and lazy?

Or something else?

Most crooks are stupid people. This guy is another in a long list of morons stealing from productive citizens.

Most crooks are stupid, but the really successful ones are smart, they become politicians.

Wig is going to get represented by a lawyer who will sue the pants off of Wood for posting what he did on Facebook because it caused harm to Wig's reputation and public standing.

Thieves are stupid and lazy. Lawyers...not so much.

Wood (the victim) told the station, he came home and saw that his house had been ransacked and his credit cards, cash and watch were all gone. The alleged thief left a pair of Nike tennis shoes, jeans and a belt, that were all wet, probably because it was raining the day of the break-in.

A little confusing.... But still humorous in its own way...

Far more value is stolen by very smart crooks, but we tend to overlook them, because they are outnumbered by stupid crooks who get caught pulling petty crimes. E.g., some people on Wall Street, some involved in banking, etc.

Unbeknownst to me, this has apparently happened before.

Pennsylvania police are lead to burglary suspect after finding the man's Facebook account up and running on the victim's computer.

Jonathan G. Parker, 19, of Fort Loudoun, Pa., is alleged to have burgled a house of two diamond rings. However, according to the Journal of West Virginia, Parker is alleged to have done something of a highly modern nature during this burglary.

For the victim, examining her computer after the burglary, noticed that her computer was logged into someone else's Facebook account.

As the Athens Banner-Herald has it, the homeowner got back to her house Sunday lunchtime to find an unknown (and currently unnamed) blond woman allegedly browsing Facebook...

The police, though, say that the blonde was kind and aware enough to say sorry in something of a halting manner before grabbing her things and scarpering.

... Without naming names, the police say the suspect is an 18-year-old University of Georgia student.

Anyone studying Criminal Justice?

I'm just wondering about the role of social networking in law enforcement... As a layperson, seems like there might be a doctoral dissertation in there somewhere...

Watched enough episodes of Cops to conclude petty crime is a profession you turn to when you are too stupid and useless to do anything else.

Some people are so addicted to internet it probably was a involuntary response like grabbing a smoke off the desk if one would have been there. Instead computer was on so he had to have his fix.

Yeah, to a lot of people they don't even think about things as they are doing them. I wonder if he will be able to get his "fix" in jail. LOL
