Burger King’s new hot dog is a Whopper of a marketing disaster — and a culinary calamity, too.

Rolled out with Apple-like hoopla, it barely holds its own against your average dirty-water dog from a street stand.

I’ve enjoyed every breed of Big Apple hot dog — from Coney Island to Pelham Bay Park to the Halal guy near the Hudson Yards No. 7 station who recently sold me the best I’ve ever had — and I’ll say without hiccupping: Burger King’s are the worst embarrassment in the name of cylindrical meat matter since Anthony Weiner tweeted his wiener.

I am curious if it's any better than Weinerschnitzel.

Those are some of the best hot dogs in the world. It's all about the casing ... it has to "snap". The dog should be a little sweet, not too soft inside. Extra lips and buttholes might be the key to the mix.

The worst hot dogs are the typical store-bought Oscar Mayer brand or similar that Mom threw in a skillet or a pot of boiling water for three minutes. Might as well eat a bologna sandwich.

Do vendor dogs still have the casings?

Costco hot dog/polish > *

I've been to Papaya King in New York. I don't know what all the hype is about.

Hot dog stands in Toronto that I used to frequent after the clubs back in the day puts anything in America to shame. They were huge and served in a toasted french bread that costs a tooney. Which was less than a dollar back then.

Yes, yes. But how were the hot dogs?

"it’s edible — but a joke compared to real New York classic dogs, like the ones at Katz’s or Papaya King"

If it was as bad as all that, putting the words "it's edible" anywhere in the review is a contradiction. That's all I would ever expect it to be honestly. If I ordered one from burger king and was able to eat it without suffering some kind of visceral reaction I would say I got what I signed up for.

They didn't even toast the bun? The damn incompetent trolls should close up shop and go live under a bridge for their insolence.

BK jumped the shark when they started putting a bun in the middle of the Big King. Also their "Chicken Tenders" are no longer sticks and are nuggets. WTF? McDonald's much?

See this is the hellspawn of Trump, Rubio, Cruz, Kasich, Carson, Hilarious Clinton, Free Bern Sanders and Religion.

They give off the vibe that Americans are stupid which inspires idiocy like this to be foisted on what they perceive to be a numbskull public with nary an effort except for a strong marketing campaign because the aforementioned idiocy gives them the confidence that marketing is all you need when you can fool the public so easily. But sometimes the public is not so easily fooled after all and people's decision making is more complex than meets the eye. For example in politics people's choices are limited between bad and worse candidates. In the culinary world their choices are far more varied and available.

I tried it the other day:

http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=38048728&postcount=40

I tried the BK hotdogs today. They taste exactly like store-bought hotdogs in store-bought buns with store-bought condiments. Absolutely nothing special about them. $1.99 for the condiment dog and $2.39 for the chili-cheese dog. For $4.38, I could have gotten an 8-pack of dogs from the store. Meh. If you need cheap convenience food on the road, get a cooler with ice packs & a RoadPro 12V heated lunchbox.

I kind of wish they had made like a Whopper dog...not quite a bratwurst, but a thicker dog that had that flame-broiled taste that a Whopper does, maybe like a ground beef dog:

TL;DR - it's nothing special. You can make the same thing in your microwave at home with Kraft condiments.

I am so mad about that. Finally get to eat real food again (heh) & they ruin one of the best things on their menu

I tried it the first time a few days ago. Not bad but not great either. Just like other chains' hot dogs.

They did that years ago, and yeah, now they're pretty much the same as the awful McDonald's nuggets.

Meh, if there's not pork in the hotdog, it's not a real hotdog. :colbert:

I used to think this way....but it just isn't true. All beef hotdogs are superior. Not that pork-based are bad, they just aren't as good as beef franks.

Only vienna franks give you that proper snap.

I have tested this extensively! :colbert:
